What kind of company is Neotar?

Neotar Oy is a modern, agile and passionate small marketing communications agency. We combine solid experience with a fresh perspective. That is why we understand the challenges faced by SMEs and find solutions to them. We are very entrepreneur-focused, for which we often receive praise. We understand entrepreneurs, entrepreneurship and running a business – not just marketing.

Our vision is to remain a small, service-oriented firm with just the right number of client companies. We want to approach our work as if we were part of the client company. This means that we get to know our clients and are constantly involved in matters relating to their business.

It is extremely important to us that there is a good rapport in our client relationships, that working together is easy, and that communication is open. That is why our clients are cheerful, growth- or quality-oriented SME entrepreneurs and their teams. Working with us is open, relaxed and full of laughter – without compromising on efficiency.

The brand story

Neotar? What on earth does that mean!

The company’s name stems from the fact that our home town, Oulu, originally built its success as a tar-producing town. Today, tar is a thing of the past, but marketing continues to drive business success. Hence, ‘neo-tar’ translates loosely from English as ‘new tar’.

The word ‘Neotar’ is also perceived as a feminine name. That is why the character of Neotar also features in our story. At the beginning, Neotar was a girl who carried a barrel of tar.

2022: The Age of Superheroes

In autumn 2021, Neotar welcomed new shareholders and adopted a new strategy. The company also wanted to revamp its brand identity. We set out to create a bold, distinctive and powerful look by visualising the company’s mission.

An entrepreneur, a business or any other customer who creates services, products and jobs for society and drives the economy is a Superhero, the protagonist of the story. She is portrayed by Iina Yrittäjä, who sets off on her adventures dressed in a white outfit and a yellow cape.

Neotar is Iina Yrittäjä’s best friend. She works behind the scenes, creating the best possible conditions for Iina to carry out her own work. The Neotar character was designed to be a sharp and strong female figure who nevertheless remains in the background of the client’s story, as she should. This work is done for our clients, not for ourselves.

“How can I stand out from the crowd?”

When the new brand was being planned, Janica posed this question. During the brainstorming session, some crazy ideas came up, and out of them sprang the TIGER REINDEER! What on earth is that creature? We simply had to have one – and so it was created.

The tiger reindeer is a metaphor for a creator who stands out. In marketing, it is often necessary to find an idea that breaks conventional boundaries and expectations – something surprising. In today’s flood of information, people are as if immunised against the constant stream of adverts, however well-crafted and stylish they may be.

Tiger reindeer aren’t born every day, but when a customer needs one, we bring them back to life time and time again.

The battle against the marketing monster

Neotar’s mission is to battle the marketing monster so that the client has a clear path to their own goals. The marketing monster is the villain of the story. It represents something that is often difficult to get a grip on – a vague and elusive obstacle that must be sorted out before sales can really take off.

It’s good to have a fresh start every now and then. You’re currently viewing our new website. Instead of the previous yellow-and-black design, we wanted to bring in a brighter look with interesting new shades: neon colours, as well as clearer and more informative content. The original Tar Girl has also made a comeback.

To us, the customer remains a superhero, and we are committed to working towards their goals. Neotar and Tiikeriporo are here to ensure that the Marketing Monster doesn’t keep anyone awake at night.

Janica Suominen

Managing Director, Business Developer

Bachelor of Media Studies, Vocational Qualification in Product Development, Master Photographer (VEAT), Vocational Qualification in Management and Business Administration (Strategy and Financial Management).

Photographer, journalist, content creator and business developer with 18 years’ experience as an entrepreneur. Has been writing for a fee since the age of 16 and worked as a press photographer for a major newspaper in his early twenties, after which he founded his own photography business at the age of 23. Has acted as a mentor to start-up entrepreneurs for over ten years. Also has experience in developing companies in the MARA sector and their operational management. Possesses forward-thinking energy and a positive attitude, with the courage to propose even the craziest of ideas.

Janica doesn’t worry about what others think; she boldly follows her own path. She sees opportunities rather than threats. She genuinely loves helping others succeed.

AD, visual wizard and storyteller

BA in Architecture, Entrepreneur (AT), Product Developer (EAT), Print Surface Manufacturer. Over 20 years’ experience in graphic design.

Matti has been working in graphic design for a quarter of a century! He possesses the insight and confidence that come with experience, which allows him to strip away the unnecessary. He’s usually on the ball even when others are still searching for the right direction. He firmly brings the rest of the team back down to earth when they’re about to get carried away. Matti also always wants to fine-tune the processes!

Matti has an amazing ability to pick out the essentials from even the largest and most complex situations, and to ask the right questions at the right time. He only speaks when he has something to say – but when he does, it’s well worth listening carefully!

A rising star who started her journey with us as an intern, but who, having quickly won over the whole team, has moved from being a full-time member of our team to currently learning the ropes of the CEO’s role. Efficient and meticulous, she has a pleasant personality and really gets things moving. Erika harnesses social media effectively and picks up new skills quickly! Erika’s keyboard also produces fresh copy for both magazine articles and advertisements.

With her energy and presence, Erika brightens everyone’s day. She produces new content at a rapid pace.

Lucci, Website Designer

Tero is an IT engineer and the founder of Lucci Oy. He has 20 years’ experience in website programming. He is responsible for all the technical solutions – and troubleshooting – for the websites produced by Neotar. Our collaboration with Tero has continued since 2007, and we have yet to encounter a challenge that he has been unable to meet. As a person, Tero is calm, a good listener and flexible. Thanks to this, collaboration on website projects is always easy, clear and reliable.

Tero’s strengths include his extensive expertise, his calm demeanour and his ability to listen.

Laura has been working in digital marketing for over 10 years. Having worked in both in-house marketing teams and various advertising agencies, Laura’s role has included paid digital advertising, particularly on Google and Meta platforms. Laura’s strengths lie in her efficiency and ability to distil information, which she uses every week to improve the results of her clients’ advertising campaigns. On top of that, Laura is a lovely person whose main goal is to help clients and meet their needs.
